Founded in New York in 1990 by three scientists at IBM’s laboratory at Yorktown Heights, Tessera originally focused on the research and development of semiconductor packaging technology. The company initially developed multi-chip modules for the global semiconductor industry.
As the company grew and evolved, Tessera formed its subsidiary Invensas, an innovator in next-generation semiconductor and packaging technologies. Tessera also expanded its business through the acquisition of FotoNation, a leader in image and video enhancement and analysis.
Now headquartered in San Jose, Calif., Tessera has generated more than $2 billion in revenue since its November 2003 Nasdaq (TSRA) IPO. The company’s customers include many of the world’s leading semiconductor, smartphone, and digital imaging manufacturers.
